When it grows too late for propriety’s sake, Ann breaks it off, reluctantly, but firm enough not to encourage Jack to argue. And thus the night ends as it began, Jack’s car in front of Ann’s apartment, the snowfall having paused in wait for another dusting. All in all, it was a pretty good Christmas Eve.
